日本語\\\\松井冬子は、1974年静岡県生まれ。2007年に東京芸術大学大学院を修了し、日本画専攻の女性としては初めての博士号を取得した。そもそも日本画とは、明治以降、「洋画」という概念が日本に持ち込まれてから、それに対する対義語として生まれた言葉で、油彩に依らず、狩野派や琳派などに代表される日本の伝統的美意識や様式、技法で表現される絵画を指す。松井冬子の作品は、絹本や有機色料が使用され、日本画の伝統的な手法に依っているものの、その主題は「花鳥風月」に代表される日本古来の世界観ではなく、アイデンティティや狂気など、個人的で内面的なものである。
僕たちがまず驚いたのは、死に逝く白い象をモチーフにした「ただちに穏やかになって眠りにおち」という作品である。まるで、象が自身の重みで少しずつ、暗い水の底に音も無く沈んでいって、黒い水面だけが残される過程を実際に見ているような錯覚にとらわれる。死を連想させる作品は世の中にいくつもあるけれど、こんなふうに象の頭だけで死を表現したその発想が新鮮だった。白い象といえば、アルフォンス・ミュシャの挿絵や伊藤若冲の白象群獣図や鳥獣花木図屏風が浮かぶけれど、これからは松井冬子の「ただちに穏やかになって眠りにおち」も白象をモチーフとした傑作として僕たちの心に残るだろう。
さて、その松井冬子の「Narcissus」展が、現在九段下の成山画廊で行われており、タイトルどおりナルシシズムをテーマにした作品が５点展示されている。僕たちは、奇形化した花や金属化した人体の一部、青木ヶ原樹海など様々なモチーフで表現された作品を通じて、再度ナルシシズムについて思いを巡らせた。僕たちは、ナルシシズムと容姿的な美しさは切り離せないものだと考えている。ナルシシズムは美の特権なのだ。少なくとも、ナルキッソスの神話が示すように、本来の文脈におけるナルシシズムは外見の美と結びついている。
ナルシシズムの定義はさておき、成山画廊ホームページで説明されている彼女の制作意図と、僕たちが絵そのものから受けた印象には大きな隔たりがあったことを最後に追記しておく。どうしても、この多分に説明的な文章を書いた人間とこの絵を描いた人間が同じ人間だとは思えず、変な居心地の悪さを覚えた。出来上がった作品に対して、無理やり論理性や整合性を持たせるために、後からこの制作意図が付け加えられたんじゃないかとまで思ってしまうような違和感がそこにはあった。僕たちには、彼女の作品はナルシシズムそれだけではなく彼女の混沌とした意識下の世界を反映してように見えるし、観る側にも自身の無意識の部分に目を向けさせるような力があるのに、逆に制作意図として挙げられているような、借りものの専門用語（にしか感じられない）で表現されている一見アカデミック風な説明文は、その力とは正反対のベクトルに向かっていて、絵の持つ魅力を損なっているようにしか思えない。松井冬子は、僕たちが最初に考えていたように、自分の内的世界を探求する賞賛すべきナルシシストかつ芸術家なのか、それとも単にくだらないシステムや価値観などの外的要因に捉われた偽者なのか、僕たちはこれからの彼女の活動を通じて、見極めていこうと思っている。

Fuyuko Matsui was born in Shizuoka in 1974. In 2007, she graduated Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music as the first woman who recieved a ph.D. in Japanese-style painting. Originally, the term "Japanese-style painting" was coined in the Meiji period to distinguish Western-style paintings from Japanese traditional paintings with its own aesthetic sense, technique and style. Although Fuyuko Matsui sticks to the traditional technique (she uses silk canvas and natural pigment), her themes do not involve the mainstream traditional worldview of Japanese as typified by the Kano school and the Rimpa school. She seems to try to focus on something more personal and psychological rather than Japanese traditional mainstream aesthetic view of the world, which is the appreciation towards simple natural objects like birds, plants and flowers.
In principle, we were intrigued to see one of her works, "Suddenly Settled Down And Fell Asleep" (tadachi ni odayaka ni natte nemuri ni ochi), which portrays an elephant on the verge of death. When we first saw the painting, we felt like we were actually witnessing the process of an elephant sinking into the depths of dark water tranquilly, leaving the black surface of the water alone. Although the death itself is a trite theme, her approach towards it was creative and unconventional enough to attract our attention. When we think of a white elephant as a beautiful motif of art, we recall a book illustration by the most famous Art Neuveau painter, Alphonse Maria Mucha, and some paintings by the 18th century Japanese painter, Jakuchu Ito. Along with these paintings, we will recall the painting by Fuyuko Matsui as one of the masterpieces from now on.
Now the exhibition "Narcissus" of Fuyuko Matsui is being held at Gallery Naruyama. As you can see from the title, you will be able to enjoy her five works devoted to Narcissism. We tried to reconsider the narcissism through her works with the motif of a deformed flower, metal parts within the human body, and the woodlands in Aokigahara. BUT WE BELIEVE THAT NARCISSISM AND SUPERFICIAL BEAUTY ARE INSEPARABLE TWINS. Narcissism is the privilege granted only for the beauty. Well, at least, narcissism has to do with beautiful appearance in the original context, as you see from the mythology of Narcissus.
Anyway, leaving the definition of narcissism aside, we want to say that we felt an uncomfortable discrepancy between the impression we got directly from her paintings and her creative intention written on the homepage of Gallery Naruyama. Somehow, we could not really believe that the person who painted those paintings was the same person who wrote that text. We even suspected that the explanatory information
was added only to give logic and consistency to her completed works. FOR US, RAHTER THAN NARCISSISM ITSELF, HER WORKS SEEM TO REFLECT THE BEAUTIFUL WORLD EXISTING IN HER CHAOTIC SUBCONCIOUSNESS -and even have the influence to lead viewers to be conscious of their internal shite at the same time. On the other hand, the pseudo-academism decorated with an array of borrowing jargon written on the homepage contradicts, almost destroys the mysterious atmosphere of her paintings. Does Fuyuko Matsui deserve our attention as a "narcissist" and an artist who is purely trying to explore her internal world (as we believed at the beginning), or is she a mere sham enslaved by the expectations and influences of the outside world? We will have to keep an eye on her future works to get to the conclusion...

Fuyuko matsui nació en Shizuoka en 1974. En el 2007, se gradúa de la Universidad de Bellas Artes y Música de Tokio como la primera mujer en recibir un ph.D en Pintura Japonesa. Originalmente, el término 'Pintura Japonesa' fue acuñado en el Período Meiji para distinguir a la pintura occidental de las pinturas japonesas tradicionales con sus propios sentidos de la estética, técnica y estilo. Aunque Fuyuko Matsui se apega a la técnica tradicional (ella usa canvas de seda y pigmentos naturales), sus temas no involucran la visión del mundo tradicional dominante en el Japón como tipifica la escuela Kano y la Rimpa. Ella parece tratar de centrarse en algo más personal y psicológico más que en la visión estética del mundo del Japón tradicional y mainstream, la cual es una apreciación hacia objetos naturales simples como los pajarillos, las plantas y las flores.
En principio, nos intrigamos al ver uno de sus trabajos, "Acomodado y Dormido Repentinamente" (Tadachi Ni Odakaya Ni Natte Nemuri Ni Ochi), el cual retrata a un elefante a punto de morir. Cuando vimos la pintura por primera vez, sentimos como si en realidad estuviéramos atestiguando el proceso de un elefante hundiéndose en las profundidades del agua oscura tranquilamente, dejando a la negra superficie del agua sola. Aunque la muerte en sí es un tema trillado, su acercamiento hacia ella fue lo suficientemente creativo y no convencional para llamar nuestra atención. Cuando pensamos en un elefante blanco como un bello motivo de arte, recordamos la ilustración de un libro del más famoso pintor del Art Neuveau, Alphonse Maria Mucha, y algunas pinturas del pintor japonés del siglo 18, Jakuchu Ito. Junto con estas pinturas, de ahora en adelante recordaremos la pintura de Fuyuko Matsui como una de las obras maestras.
Actualmente la exhibición 'Narcissus' de Fuyuko Matsui se está llevando a cabo en la Gallery Naruyama. Como pueden ver en el título, podrás disfrutar sus cinco obras dedicadas al narcisismo. Nosotros tratamos de reconsiderar al narcisismo a través de sus trabajos con los motivos de una flor deformada, partes de metal dentro del cuerpo humano, y los bosques en Aokigahara. PERO NOSOTROS CREEMOS QUE EL NARCISISMO Y LA BELLEZA SUPERFICIAL SON GEMELOS INSEPARABLES. El narcisismo es el privilegio concedido sólo para la belleza. Bueno, al menos, el narcisismo tiene que ver con la apariencia bella en su contexto original, como se ve en la mitología de Narciso.
En fin, dejando la definición de narcisismo a un lado, quisiéramos decir que sentimos una discrepancia incómoda entre la impresión que obtuvimos directamente desde sus pinturas y su intención creativa escrita en la página web de Gallery Naruyama. De alguna manera, no pudimos creer que la persona que pintó aquellas pinturas fuera la misma persona que escribió aquel texto realmente. Hasta sospechamos que la informacion aclacatoria fue añadida sólo para dar lógica y consistencia a sus trabajos hechos. PARA NOSOTROS, MÁS QUE NARCISISMO EN SÍ, SU OBRA PARECE REFLEJAR EL MUNDO BELLO QUE EXISTE EN SU CAÓTICA SUBCONCIENCIA -y hasta tiene la influencia de conducir a los espectadores a ser concientes de su propia mierda interna al mismo tiempo. Por otro lado, el pseudo-academismo decorado con una variedad de jergas prestadas escritas en la página web contradice, casi destruye la atmósfera misteriosa de sus pinturas. ¿Fuyuko Matsui merece nuestra atención como 'narcisista' y artista que está puramente tratando de explorar su mundo interno (como creímos en el comienzo), o es ella una mera farsa esclavizada por las expectativas y las influencias del mundo exterior? Tendremos que echarle un ojo a sus futuros trabajos para llegar a la conclusión...
